The view shows the lake’s numerous rocky islands beneath Banner Peak, with pine trees and alpine terrain in the foreground. Thousand Island Lake lies at about 9,833 feet in the Ritter Range and was formed by glacial activity. The lake’s name appears on Theodore Solomons’s 1896 map; John Muir referred to it as “Islet Lake.”
