Professionally restored and finished in the Old Wood tone, this set is a coveted find for Monterey collectors and admirers of California’s early decorative arts.
Monterey furniture holds a distinctive place in the history of American decorative arts, representing one of the earliest furniture styles to emerge with a uniquely Californian identity. Originating in Southern California in 1929, the Monterey line was developed by Mason Manufacturing Company under Frank Mason and his son George, in collaboration with the prominent Los Angeles retailer Barker Brothers. Created to complement the Spanish Revival and ranch-style homes flourishing throughout California, the collection drew inspiration from Spanish Colonial and Mission architecture, traditional rancho furnishings, and the romanticized Western aesthetic of early Hollywood. The result was a distinctly regional style that celebrated California’s architectural heritage while embracing a relaxed, rustic sensibility.
Each chair measures 19" x 17" x 33.75", seat height 18".
