Lovely drawing in conte crayon. Measures 16" x 12 1/2", matte is 23 1/2" x 19 1/4".

Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, David Hendrickson was an illustrator, primarily of textbooks and magazines, and was also an etcher and a painter.  He lived in New York City beginning 1931,  New Hope, Pennsylvania from 1936-1941, and northern California where in 1921 he had been in San Francisco and in 1947, settled in Palo Alto.

He studied at the St. Paul Institute of Art, the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, and the California School of Fine Arts.  Among his teachers were Harvey Dunn, Dean Cornwell and George Bridgman.

In 1921, he became a resident of San Francisco, and by 1947 was living in Palo Alto where he was a member of the Art Club.
