Stop the Draft Week on Trial, Defend the Oakland 7, Original Protest Poster, c.1968 AP2018

Regular price $1,200.00

An original broadside poster produced ahead of the Oakland 7 conspiracy trial, calling supporters to pack the Alameda County Courthouse when proceedings began January 13th. Seven faces of the defendants are collaged at left against a dramatic photograph of helmeted riot police facing down protesters, a "Resist Tyranny" sign visible in the crowd. Bold offset printing in orange and black. Union labeled.

The Oakland 7 — Frank Bardacke, Terry Cannon, Reese Erlich, Steve Hamilton, Bob Mandel, Jeff Segal, and Mike Smith — were among the key organizers of Stop the Draft Week, October 1967, when thousands descended on the Oakland Army Induction Center in one of the most significant acts of militant anti-war resistance in American history. Charged with conspiracy, they were acquitted of all charges in March 1969 after an 11-week trial that became a focal point of the Bay Area left. An example of this poster is held in the permanent collection of the Oakland Museum of California.

Condition: Mint. No tears, folds, or fading. Union bug present.
