19th Century French Carousel Pig A3462
This is a very rare and wonderfully fun object to own. This pig originated from a 19th-century French carousel—a period when carousels were crafted with exceptional artistry and attention to detail. During the late 1800s, French carousel makers such as Gustave Bayol and the Limonaire brothers were renowned for producing elaborately carved and beautifully painted animals. Each figure was created with remarkable realism and character, often carved from wood and finished by skilled artisans.
Carousels of this era were not only amusement rides but also traveling works of art, and surviving animals from them are now highly collectible. This pig is an excellent example of that craftsmanship and history.
