17th Century Oval Stained Glass Panel Virgin Mary Crowned by the Holy Trinity A2379

Regular price $350.00

A 19th Century repair has preserved this exquisite example of the glass craftsman's art. And of a believer's piety. And of his pride in making this offering to his church. The name on the Latin dedication is German and we can make out the last two letters of the date, '63 unobscured by the later repair.

Only two colors besides a dark brown are used and they are yellow and blue and they are employed sparingly to great effect. The iconography of this scene of Mary being crowned Queen of Heaven upon her Assumption matches well with many 17th century Baroque depictions of the event, which is why we date this to 1663.

Measures 9" x 11".
