Another amazing piece from one of our favorites. Here is a desert landscape Lee returned to decades after first sketching it in the field back in 1938, reworking the scene into a finished oil forty years later. That long gap gives it a nice bit of history — the immediacy of an on-site study filtered through the artist's more mature hand. Signed by the artist and a little bit of history is written on the reverse, oil on board.
