The Iroquois, also known as Haudenosaunee, were a powerful Native American confederacy of six nations in northeastern North America. They are renowned for their political system, the Great Law of Peace, which some historians believe influenced the structure of the U.S. Constitution. The Confederacy originally consisted of five nations: the Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, and Seneca, later joined by the Tuscarora.
