Hotel Lobby or Train Station with Concession Stand - 1940s Oil on Board P3411

Regular price $450.00

A vivid study of a commercial interior of the 1940s. We love the darker foreground setting of the the brightly colored display cases in the back.

Unsigned. Art measures 10" x 13 7/8", frame is 12 x 15 3/4"

The board is stamped on the back Joseph Mayer Co Union Square New York, who were picture framers and artists' suppliers at that address from the 1940s to the 1960s. The look of the fashions on the painting do point towards the 1940s. We think we are in the lobby of perhaps a hotel or a department store because of the concession stand or display cases but we might just as easily be at a train station of the period. The small case at the feet of the two ladies conversing is definitely a clue. We get the feel of travel.
