A bold desert landscape capturing the layered red and purple rock formations of Red Rock Canyon under a wide California sky. Lee builds up the cliffs with confident, textured brushwork and warm ochres and pinks catching the light against cooler violet shadows, with the pale desert floor stretching out below. Circa 1950.
Signed by the artist, with additional sketches on the reverse side of the panel, adding a nice bit of working-artist charm and provenance. Presented in a brushed silver-tone frame that complements the painting's warm palette nicely. A striking example of mid-century California desert painting.
