A wonderful period portrait with an unknown history, offering a glimpse into the style, fashion, and formal elegance of postwar California in the early 1950s.
The identities of the sitters and the artist are currently unknown. The work was acquired from a Santa Barbara estate, and is dated 1950, but no additional provenance or identifying documentation is presently available. The lack of a known artist or identified sitters gives the piece a sense of mystery and makes it an especially interesting example of privately commissioned portraiture from the era.
