A heavily textured, almost sculptural portrait — thick impasto in rust reds, ochres, and turquoise gives this figure a weathered, icon-like presence, somewhere between folk art and outsider expressionism.
Signed on the reverse, circa 1960. Set in a simple whitewashed wood frame that keeps all the attention on that wonderfully rough surface.
