Mission Courtyard Scene by Anna Skelle, c. 1927, Oil on Board P3554

Regular price $3,200.00

Now, this is a beauty of a painting. A sun-washed courtyard scene rendered in a loose hand, likely capturing one of California's historic mission sites. A weathered stone wellhead anchors the foreground, its wrought-iron winch arching upward against dappled ochre paving, while shadowed archways and adobe walls recede into cool violet and blue tones behind. The palette shifts from warm golden light on the stones to the shaded purples of the mission's interior corners, a hallmark of early California plein air painting.

Signed lower right. Oil on board, presented in its original carved giltwood frame showing attractive age and craquelure consistent with the period. A lovely example of Southern California regionalist work from the late 1920s.

Art measures 13" x 15", in frame 21.75" x 23.75
