Bernard Locca

Bernard Locca (1926-1997)- Mod Young Man in a Red Chair 1960s Oil on Canvas P2646

Regular price $3,500.00

A perfect yé-yé French Mod guy, from his mop top down to his Beatle boots, cigarette in hand, perched perhaps a little impatiently on a rather grand antique arm-chair. He's thinking about his new Vespa parked outside and trying to decide which girlfriend he wants to see tonight. It's okay to get lost in his moody eyes. Just don't get clingy. This totally nails the period.

Canvas measures 25 3/4" x 39 3/4", frame 30 3/4" x 44 3/4".

Born to an Italian stone mason father and a French mother, Locca found success early, not only in France, where he found himself collected by Maurice Chevalier and Edith Piaf  and other celebrities who also sat for their portraits by him (Simone Signoret, Marcel Marceau), but also in America, where he enjoyed a considerable vogue among Hollywood stars as well as titans of industry (James Stewart and Henry Ford). He really did catch the spirit of the times on both sides of the Atlantic with considerable verve and brio. Also a celebrated mural painter.
