Twilight by DeWitt Parshall, Oil on Board P3509
Dark trees closing in around a last strip of warm sky. Small panel, big mood. Parshall knew how to make dusk feel like something.
Presents well overall with minor surface spots on the frame consistent with its years. Nothing that detracts from the image. Painting is still in excellent condition despite these marks on the fabric.
DeWitt Parshall was an American painter based in Santa Barbara, California, known for his moody landscapes of the California coast and countryside. Trained in New York and Paris, he became closely associated with the California plein air tradition, painting the local eucalyptus groves, moonlit hills, and Pacific light that defined the region's artistic identity in the early 20th century. His night scenes are among his most sought-after works.
