Paul Grimm was born in South Africa in 1891 and came to the U.S. when he was 7 years old. Grimm showed artistic talent at an early age and at 18 was awarded a scholarship for study in Dusseldorf's Royal Academy. Returning to the U.S., Grimm moved to Hollywood where he painted movie sets before settling permanently in Palm Springs in 1932. Though he also produced coastals and Sierra Mountain scenes, Grimm is best remembered for the desert scenes he produced during his 42 years as a resident of Palm Springs.
