From the Getty Museum Collection's website: 

"After serving in World War I, Armando Drechsler emigrated from Germany or Austria to Mexico, where he became popular for his illustrations in widely-distributed calendars. These colorful commercial images often represented colonial as well as indigenous cultures and peoples in a European style. Among his subjects, he painted stylized illustrations of women as Aztec and Mayan princesses, cowgirls, peasants, goddesses, and dancers.

In the 1940s and 1950s, Drechsler began to focus on commissioned portraits, which became fashionable following his success as a calendar artist. He painted prominent Mexican politicians such as President Plutarco Elias Calles (1877–1945), President Lázaro Cárdenas (1895–1970), and President Miguel Alemán Valdes (1900–1983), as well as the American president Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1882–1945) (Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library)."

Interesting to note that John Paul Getty himself had his portrait painted by Drechsler.
