Untitled (Reclining Nude) by William Hannum P3480

Regular price $950.00

Reclining Nude by William Hannum, oil on canvas, dated 1981 (verso inscribed “Local Carmel Artist”).

A bold, loose figurative work showing a reclining nude rendered in thick, expressive brushstrokes and a vibrant, almost Fauvist palette. The composition feels immediate and gestural, with color doing as much of the work as line—giving it that nice blend of Impressionist influence with a more modern, expressive edge.

William Hannum (1947–1998) was a California painter closely associated with the Carmel art scene and the Carmel Art Association, where he was a well-known exhibiting artist. His work is typically characterized by broad, confident brushwork and strong color, often capturing landscapes, still lifes, and figurative subjects with an emphasis on mood and energy rather than strict realism.

A strong example of Hannum’s expressive style from the early 1980s, with a relaxed California feel and a lot of personality.
