Still Life: Fruit, Glass w Spoon in Water - c 1939 Oil on Canvas
A really superb painting in a fantastic frame. We haven't yet deciphered the signature at the bottom right edge of the canvas, but the work speaks for itself. Exciting handling of the volumes of the objects in a way reminiscent of Cezanne and the later Fauvists, especially in the color range as well as the bold brushwork and employment of the palette knife to create a vibrant surface. We particularly note the artist's subtle observation of image refraction through the glass and the water it contains. Top-notch in every way. From a collection in San Francisco.
Canvas measures15" x 18" and the frame is 27" x 24" x 2 1'2"
