Born in Taxco, Salvador Teran worked with his cousins, Los Castillo, before moving to Mexico City and opening his own workshop there in 1952. Admired for his innovative jewelry, often pierced with dramatic shadow box backgrounds, he is especially known for his mosaic pieces, trays, coffee sets and wall hangings, usually fashioned from brass with brightly colored glass tesserae composing bold modernist designs.
