An old master sensibility and training shows in the treatment of this scene, but the subject is emphatically New World.

Oil on canvas measures 24" x 20" and the frame is 28" x 24".

Eugène Pierre Franquinet was born in Brussels, Belgium on February 21, 1875. Franquinet studied painting with Corneille Petit in his native city. He immigrated to America in 1907 and four years later settled in Southern California. He was a resident of La Crescenta until his death on August 29, 1940. Primarily a portrait painter, he also painted figures and landscapes.
