Mexican Lacquered Wedding Trunk on Stand M2046

A small dome-lidded trunk in ebonized and lacquered wood, hand-painted in the manner of Francisco Coronel Navarro of Olinalá. Golden-yellow and orange blossoms with feathery leaves cover every surface against a deep black ground, with banded borders and scrolling vine trim framing each panel. The trunk sits on a fitted stand with bracket feet, also painted with a floral frieze. Circa 1940s.

The brushwork is lively and confident, and the dense color on black gives it real presence. It’s a charming piece for a entry table, a bedroom, or a shelf where it can be admired up close.

Excellent condition with zero paint loss and zero cosmetic damage to the wood.
