The previous owner sent us this: " My grandfather, Douglas Sloane Watson, worked for WJ Sloane in San Francisco in the late 1800’s. This was around the same time that WR Hearst was building the Hacienda del Pozo de Verona for his mother in Pleasanton, CA, just east of SF. Our best guess is that my grandfather through WJ Sloane was asked to get some Mexican furniture for the Hacienda and acquired some for himself."
The plot thickens... These three are copies made in 1900 from the three that came from Mexico by the San Francisco firm of McCann, Belcher and Allen. Those other three, the Mexican originals are the entry F2493 on our site. If you look hard you can spot the very slight variation. Essentially the two sets of chairs comprised a six chair dining set to go with the other pieces we acquired (F2490, F2491, F2494, and F2495) of this suite.
