Fantastic picture, dramatic and romantic. We loved running across his charming (and accurate) self-description below.

"Lyman Byxbe is one of many great artists who have turned to the majestic Rocky Mountains for inspiration and the subject matter of their compositions. Born in Pittsfield, Illinois, he began at an early age to teach himself to draw.  He became a successful commercial artist in Omaha, Nebraska, where he studied the art of etching under Mark Levings, an architect.  In 1938 Mr. Byxbe moved to Estes Park, Colorado, where he has had a summer studio for many years. All of the artist's time and talent is devoted to copper plate etching in his mountain studio.

In the last few years Lyman Byxbe has been honored by membership in the Chicago Society of Etchers, Miniature Print Society of Kansas City, Missouri, and Northwest Printmakers of Seattle, Washington. He is represented in the permanent collection of the National Gallery of Arts, at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C., and the Library of Congress, at Washington, D.C."
