Warren Hile was born in Iowa in 1947.  He spent his childhood in Colorado, and moved to Southern California where he lives with his wife Gillian, and maintains his studio in Sierra Madre.
Hile graduated from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena with a BFA degree in illustration with distinction.  After graduation, Hile worked as a freelance illustrator for the first 11 years of his professional life, for clients including Apple Computer, The National Football League, Mattel, Pacific Telephone, and TV Guide.
In the late 1980’s, he turned his hobby of furniture design, into Hile Studio, Inc. designing and building furniture from the Arts and Crafts Period. Clients included Steve Jobs, furnishing the set of “Mad About You”, and the lobby and presidential suites of Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel in Anaheim, California, and The Lodge at Torrey Pines.
During this time, he became enthralled by the California painters of the early 1900’s...  William Wendt, Hanson Putthuf, and especially Sam Hyde Harris.  These early painters seemed to show up quite frequently and work very nicely with Craftsman furniture.
In the early 2000’s, Hile and his wife acquired a small ranch in the Eastern Sierra’s at the base of Mt. Whitney in the Alabama Hills.
