Still Life of Fruit by Francisco Dosamantes, Oil on Canvas P3478
Still Life of Fruit by Francisco Dosamantes, oil on canvas, circa 1937.
Francisco Dosamantes (1911–1986) was a Mexican painter and muralist associated with the post-Revolutionary Mexican art movement. A student of Diego Rivera and a member of the Liga de Escritores y Artistas Revolucionarios (LEAR), his work often reflected social themes, but he also produced refined easel paintings that highlight strong composition and form.
This still life is a quieter, more intimate example of his work, featuring a carefully arranged grouping of bananas, apples, and citrus. The simplified shapes and soft, blended tones give the piece a calm, almost sculptural presence, while maintaining a distinctly Mexican sensibility. A balanced and thoughtful composition that shows Dosamantes’ versatility beyond muralism.
Acquired from a private collector, this piece has been professionally restored and cleaned, remounted, and presented in the gilded frame shown.
