Tlaquepaque Clay Figure c 1930s: Young John the Baptist Gourd Around his Neck with Lamb of God and Cactus M2799

Regular price $195.00

A lovely take on the Bible story. Much repaired, therefore much loved: the lamb has lost his legs and is arranged to look as if he's resting on the ground, the young John has lost a hand and some fingers and his legs have been repaired at the ankle where they broke off. He is so young (and his hair is so long) he looks like a girl, but the animal skins that clothe him identify him clearly. Survival in the wilderness is not theoretical to the artist, hence the water gourd.

Measures 9 1/2" x 6" x 3 1/2".
