The Pacific Clay Company, a manufacturer of industrial products, managed to survive the Depression by pivoting to art pottery and household serveware and gardenware. And they got out of that business in 1942, in time to pivot again, which is why they are still in business today. And, while they were at it, they really put their hearts into it, leaving behind a design legacy that bears comparison to any of the other great brands that flourished in that golden age of California pottery.
