Stout Sign Company LLC ™ was established in 1886 by the Stout family of St. Louis, Missouri. The family was intent on capitalizing on the increase in automobile traffic on the nation’s highway system. This traffic brought an exciting opportunity for roadside advertising. Set on making their mark, the Stout family began producing signs that utilized the highest-quality processes and materials possible, resulting in some of the most durable signs ever made. This attention to quality and durability quickly caught the attention of brands like Burma Shave, Baby Ruth, Michelin Tire, Pepsi Cola and others.

With the outbreak of WW II, Stout Sign Company LLC ™, along with other manufacturers, gave its manufacturing facility over to the federal government in support of the war effort. The little that Stout was allowed to operate in the facility was put to use, in part, producing the widely-recognized Uncle Sam signs reading “I Want You for the U.S. Army.”
