Avila Beach is a small community in San Luis Obispo County that was known for its fishing pier and a pioneering railhead. This photograph is tenderly captioned on the back with the names of all the men pictured in it. Whoever the photographer was, he was obviously a first rate professional: this is a terrific image of early California.
