Biltmore Lobby Painting of a Spanish Princess in the style of Velasquez
Painted in the 20s, this free interpretation of a Velasquez portrait of the Infanta Maria Theresa once graced the lobby of the Biltmore in Santa Barbara, really putting the Spanish into Spanish Colonial. It's a fine bit of very skillful whimsy producing enough atmosphere to be worthy of a Hollywood movie set. Very much a token of the fairy-tale Santa Barbara still tells its visitors.
Oil on board mounted canvas, 37" x 48", frame 43" x 55".
