Filmmaker, painter, and teacher, Ruth Abrams (1912-1986) is best known for her depictions of outer space such as, There Are Unknown Elements in the Universe as Old as Mankind (1962).
Abrams was born in Brooklyn, New York. Throughout her education she remained in New York City where she attended Columbia University, the Art Students League, and the New School of Social Research. She also participated in art classes led by influential artists, including Alexander Archipenko and William Zorach, recognized for their use of abstraction in painting and sculpture.
