Ethel Lavinia Tanner (b.1881) Portrait of a Terrier named "Spot" P2536

Regular price $950.00

Ethel Tanner belongs to the rich and varied English School of animal portraiture and often figures in British auction catalogues. Her paintings are mostly of dogs, indeed they constituted her chief artistic interest, and her quick sketches of them are especially prized. She was also the authoress (as illustrator and co-writer) with Leslie Martin of a charming children's book called "The Mischievous Puppy," Her great affinity for her subjects shows in this exceptionally winning portrait painted around 1910 of Spot. Yes, once upon a time, people named their dogs Spot without irony or embarrassment.

The canvas measures 10" x 14" and the frame 16" x 18"

In excellent condition.
