Bernhard Klein

Bernhard Klein (1888-1967) Gallery Poster 1968 AP401

Regular price $100.00

Another from our treasure trove of posters. Klein is of that generation of German artists whose embrace of primitivism and expressionism and socialist ideals in the aftermath of the Great War would so disgust and enrage the Nazis. His woodcuts and superb paintings are classics of the period. A true original, his work is infused with life and true feeling and is strongly related to the naif, free from any pose.

This poster from the Galerie Nierendorf is from the first posthumous show honoring his life’s work. He was a member of the seminal November Group of artists formed on the 3rd of December, 1918, taking its name from the German Revolution that overthrew the monarchy as the war was ending.

19″ x 28″, unframed.
