Circa 1930s. This total original has us on his team: one of the most interesting 20th Century California artists we've come across. Everything he paints has enormous presence.
Board measures 16" x 20 1/4", frame 26 3/8" x 30 1/4".
Born in Boston, MA on Feb. 11, 1869. Tufts moved to San Francisco with his family in 1876 and married artist Florence Ingalsbe in 1895. He first studied with E. Charlton Fortune followed by study at the CSFA and with Hans Hofmann at UC in 1930. Later in life he lived in the California cities of Santa Cruz, San Rafael and Berkeley where he died on Aug. 18, 1942.
