Stickley Brothers 1912 Sideboard
Original finish and patina. Measures 66" across x 23 1/2" deep x 53 1/2" high.
And why a mirror? To draw light into a dark room, pure and simple. Many Arts and Crafts and craftsman homes were dark at the time (and still are), with their deep eaves, dark paint colors, richly patterned wallpapers and extensive woodwork. So the mirror works. Great design all around.
Albert Stickley formed the Stickley Brothers company in Grand Rapids in 1891 with John George Stickley (who left the business in 1902). Stickley Brothers built some exceptional furniture along European designs, as well as introducing a line of inlaid Arts & Crafts furniture in 1900.
