Anders Aldrin Ojai Road circa 1943 Oil on Board P2734
Brilliant and uncompromising, with its almost brutal impasto and the shocks and collisions of the colors (that slash of red) that make you exclaim, yes that's it? That's it exactly, that is a California country road! Anders doesn't do pretty, but he does do beautiful.
Art measures 12" x 16" and the frame is 15" x 19". From a private collection.
Anders Aldrin was an assiduous painter of his environment, of wherever he found himself, whether on a momentous return to his native Sweden, or during visits to wherever his children had settled, but the bulk of his attention as a painter was absorbed by Los Angeles, specifically by its Echo Park and Silver Lake and other Eastside neighborhoods. By the end of his life this courageous late starter had forged an entirely individual path and created a body of work that is coming to be recognized as truly important.
