Almost Illustrious: illustration art gets its due

... from us, certainly.

Its influence is everywhere. It tells us stories, sells us products, and shapes the way we take in narrative and emotional information. No wonder the movies employ its practitioners whenever they can. Without them, noir would be pretty gray, there'd be less fi in sci, and romance might not be as sexy.

In their time and prime, American illustrators were the wonder of the world. They set standards of beauty, fashion and style and gave us imagery to feed our imaginations. Sometimes anonymous, sometimes very famous indeed, illustration artists are coming into their own with scholars of art as well as collectors.

We're not that deep, or clever: we love the work uninhibitedly, which is what its creators intended.
